We at Primary Wing of Salwan Public School believe in inculcating in our students, love and respect for environment. A two day camp was organized by T.E.E.C.A (Trust for Environment Education and Community Action) on 3rd Oct '09 and 4th Oct' 09 in order to sensitize the young minds about the diversity of nature and the need to protect and nurture our fauna and flora. Through nature trail, plant-watch and bird-watch, the students were able to learn about different species of plants and animals .The students were made to understand the symbiotic relationship between man and nature. Several creative games along with team assignments were organized for them. They enjoyed themselves at the butterfly park and learned about various nursery techniques. The enthusiastic students collected peacock feathers, leaves of medicinal plants, dry leaves and pebbles. They participated actively in various activities such as nature-quiz, clay - modelling, group –discussion and nature-photography. The experienced environmentalists uprised them about various environmental issues and ways of protecting our environment. The students also enjoyed the camp-fire and the environment based movie - show organized for them. The quiz and prize-distribution reinforced their learning. Illusion.
Its surely that man is capable of overpowering mother nature. Its an illusion that man can conquer nature. Nature is the ‘whole’ and we are just a part of it. Its power, its magic is so intense and effective that time and again, man moves back into the lap of Mother Nature to recollect energy, to recollect what he has lost in the material world. It’s not without a reason that nature is prefixed with the word ‘Mother’. It has all the motherly qualities, like a mother, who despite the ill-behaviour of her child, would simply accept him with arms open wide. Mother Nature is so loving that it embraces each and every evil mind too with all its love, magic and healing care,no matter how much harm we have done to it.
On 9th October’09, Salwan visited the Aravalli Biodiversity Park, Vasant Kunj. It was one of the best trips ever organized because its destination was nowhere our own life source, nature. The Aravalli Biodiversity Park is a 700 acre space specially reserved in Delhi for restoring the flora and fauna of India. It was a mining area earlier, rich in quartz, badarpur and mica. It took nearly three years for the people-in-charge to convert a complete mining area into a lush green park. The vivid image of the inviting gardens is still fresh, wide and clear in front of my eyes. I can still feel the immense power I experienced, when I was there. For the first time, I felt that I could breathe air which was so fresh. I had so much to see but time was a constraint. I spend hours watching the different shades of green all round, listen to nature’s music…chirping of birds, hum of insects, and song of nightingale. I was amazed to see the slithering baby cobra, dive of Shikra, peacock’s dance, scintillating colors of different butterflies like: Peacock Pansy ,Blue Pansy, Green Jewel etc. It was touching to learn that Mother Nature provides us medicines to cure almost all diseases. Medicinal treasure that the plants provide was immense and huge, be it the insect repellant Amaltas, skin care and blood purifier Aloe-Vera, anti obesity - ashvagandha, antifungal and anti-viral Mulethi, Lemon grass and Tulsi.
As far as my two little eyes could see, it was naturalization of humans and not humanization of nature and the sight was nothing, but simply beautiful.
